The miracle diet, what kind of diet? Miracle Diet has become very popular mainly by giving a guarantee that we will lose a lot of weight in a short time. Such diets include the Copenhagen diet, thanks to which we will lose from 7 to even 20 kg in 13 days. This is a lot considering the fact that the rational standard for an adult to lose weight is on average 0.5 to 1 kg of body weight per week. Miracle diets are often restrictive diets with a very low level of energy supplied to our body daily (800 kcal, 600 kcal, 400 kcal). They are also monothematic diets that contain several repeated products in their menu or give up whole groups of products such as the Dukan diet. These diets are also characterised by the fact that they are designed to be used for a short period of time or to return to them periodically.   How do they slim down the miracle diet? Miracle Diet attracts crowds of people primarily because the effects of their use are really visible and in a short time. Indeed, we lose weight as indicated by the authors and this happens almost immediately. How is this possible? The hook is in what we actually get rid of in the process of weight loss. It is worth knowing that if we lose weight at such a fast pace, we first lose water, financing ourselves dehydration and then muscle mass. What is most important in weight loss is whether the body fat stays with us all the time. And this makes the effects of a miracle diet seem seeming and short-lived.   Long-term effects of the miracle diet Although the effects of these diets are short-lived, their negative effects can last much longer. Here’s what can happen to us after taking a miracle diet: The yo-yo effect is the most common and even unavoidable effect of low-calorie diets. It consists in a drastic and quick weight gain after a weight loss treatment. When we return to our previous eating habits after a diet, our exhausted and starving body immediately tries to make up for the loss, but not only. Experienced with previous hunger, it stores resources in the form of fat tissue. Therefore, our weight soon after the end of the diet may become higher than before.     Deficiencies of many nutrients and vitamins Since miracle diets do not belong to the group of balanced and varied diets, and their hallmark is the monothematic nature of the products and the abandonment of whole groups of products, using them will very likely deprive us of many nutrients and vitamins. And this can have a serious impact on our health, starting with weakness, drowsiness, lack of immunity, and even anaemia.   Episodes of overeating Sounds quite abstract, but it can be true. Long-term use of restrictive, low-calorie diets can trigger overeating attacks. How does this happen? If we follow a restrictive low-calorie diet, we are chronically hungry. We don’t satisfy our hunger, so the feeling of hunger is increasing. When such a situation lasts for a long time, eventually our body does not stand up and at the first opportunity we “throw ourselves on food” and eat beyond our means. Seizures of excessive eating may also be an effect of the fact that using restrictive diets reduces thermogenesis, which causes homeostasis disorders and as a result disturbs the appetite regulation system. Despite their popularity, miracle diets are not effective tools in the weight loss process. It is true that by using them we will lose excess body weight, but this will be an apparent and short-lived effect. When you finish your diet and return to your old habits, your hungry body will quickly make up for the deficiency. Due to their restrictiveness, monotony of products, low calorie content, often also giving up certain groups of products, miracle diets can contribute to many health problems, related to shortages of certain nutrients and vitamins and serious problems in maintaining proper body weight.   How to lose weight effectively? This question is asked by almost all people who care about losing excess weight. In effective and healthy weight loss, the key is a properly balanced diet and regular physical activity tailored to a person’s abilities. It is also worth remembering that no miracle diet can maintain proper body weight.
